Minute Organism -Shrimp |
·
Shrimp are marine crustacean invertebrates with 10
jointed legs on the thorax and body covered with a smooth exoskeleton which is
often transparent and colourless.
·
The shrimp lives on the river beds and ocean floors
around the world, filtering sand and particles in the water.
·
Shrimps are omnivorous animals and mainly feed on
algae and other plant particles along with tiny fish and plankton in the water.
·
They may grow as long as 9 in. (23 cm), but most are
smaller. Due to their small size shrimp are naturally prey to numerous predators
both in the water and out.
·
Shrimp can lay up to a million eggs at once that only
take a couple of weeks to hatch.
·
They swim forward by paddling their abdominal
swimmerets and can move backward with swift strokes of their fan like tails.
·
The shrimp is very closely related to the prawn.
