The Cheethah - Kid's Project

This is a Social Studies - (My favourite animal is)/Cheetah project for 3rd graders.

        The Cheetah

My favourite Animal is the cheetah. The cheetah is a big cat in the subfamily Felinae that inhabits most of Africa and parts of Iran. The cheetah's slender, long-legged body is built for speed making it the fastest land animal in the world. Cheetahs are carnivores, and feed mostly on smaller antelope like springbok, steenbok, Thomson’s gazelle, and duiker. They usually chase down their prey knock them to the ground and kill with a suffocating bite to the neck.

2- Parts of a Cheetah

3- Threats

There are less than 7500 cheetahs left in the wild, making the cheetah Africa’s most endangered big cat. Cheetahs are threatened by habitat loss, conflicts with farmers and illegal capturing of the cub to sell and use as a pet.

4- Ways to protect Cheetah’s from dangers
Now efforts are underway in South Africa to save the last of the wild cheetahs through both public awareness and ensuring breeding success and protection through conservation funds.

5- Conclusion

Cheetahs are predators and they help control other animal populations. In addition to its role as a predator, cheetahs feed other animals, such as vultures, jackals, beetles, and other scavengers. Many people fear predators but a world without predators would be something to fear even more.
