Minute Organisms - Information Facts on Shrimp

Minute Organisms
Shrimp (information and facts for grade 4 students Maldives)
Minute Organism -Shrimp

·        Shrimp are marine crustacean invertebrates with 10 jointed legs on the thorax and body covered with a smooth exoskeleton which is often transparent and colourless.
·        The shrimp lives on the river beds and ocean floors around the world, filtering sand and particles in the water.
·        Shrimps are omnivorous animals and mainly feed on algae and other plant particles along with tiny fish and plankton in the water.
·        They may grow as long as 9 in. (23 cm), but most are smaller. Due to their small size shrimp are naturally prey to numerous predators both in the water and out.
·        Shrimp can lay up to a million eggs at once that only take a couple of weeks to hatch.
·        They swim forward by paddling their abdominal swimmerets and can move backward with swift strokes of their fan like tails.
·        The shrimp is very closely related to the prawn.

Dolphins facts and informations for a 3rd grader

These are some facts and information's about Dolphins required to know by a 3rd grader in Maldives.

Basic information on dolphin

Dolphins are highly intelligent marine mammals and are part of the family of toothed whales that includes orcas and pilot whales.
Dolphin coloration varies, but they are generally gray in color with darker backs than the rest of their bodies.

dolphin information for kids

Dolphins live in social groups of five to several hundred. They are found worldwide, mostly in shallow seas of the continental shelves, and are carnivores, mostly eating fish and squid.
Dolphins are well known for their agility and playful behavior, making them a favorite of wildlife watchers. Many species will leap out of the water, spy-hop (rise vertically out of the water to view their surroundings) and follow ships.

To prevent drowning while sleeping only half of the dolphin’s brain goes to sleep while the other half remains awake so they can continue to breathe.

I hope this helps to someone in the 3rd grade (3rd step).

Introduction of Rainforest

A Rainforest can be described as a tall, dense jungle.  The reason it is called a "rain" forest is because of the high amount of rainfall it gets per year.  The climate of a rain forest is very hot and humid so the animals and plants that exist there must learn to adapt to this climate. There are many rainforests all over the world, some bigger than others. They are all unique and have their own plants, insects, and animals.

Importance of Rainforest

1-They provide a habitat for plants and animals
2- Tropical forests regulate global and regional climate-systems by acting as heat and water pumps.
3- Prevention of Flooding, Soil Loss and Siltation
4- Rainforests are a vital source of medicines.
5- Rainforests also offer a bounty of foods.

Destruction of Rainforest

In the past 50 years much of the rainforest in Africa and Asia has been destroyed
- Many rainforests in Central and South America have been burnt down to make way for cattle farming
- Timber companies cut down huge trees such as mahogany and teak and sell them to other countries to make furniture.
The forests are cut down to make way for vast plantations where products such as bananas, palm oil, pineapple, sugar cane, tea and coffee are grown.
The rainforests have to be removed in order to extract minerals and metals such as diamonds, oil, and gold.

Strata of a Rainforest

"Strata" means "layers." Scientists divide rainforests into different strata for easy reference.
EMERGENTS: Giant trees that are much higher than the average canopy height. It houses many birds and insects.

CANOPY: The upper parts of the trees. This leafy environment is full of life in a tropical rainforest and includes: insects, birds, reptiles, mammals, and more.

UNDERSTORY: A dark, cool environment under the leaves but over the ground.

FOREST FLOOR: Teeming with animal life, especially insects. The largest animals in the rainforest generally live here.

Rainforest Animals

Macaw from emergent
Emergents:- Scarlet Macaw
          Canopy:- Howler Monkey

Understory:- Red-eyed Tree Frogs

Forest Floor:- Anteaters

Golden Lion Tamarin

The golden lion tamarin gets its name from its bright reddish orange pelage and the extra long hairs around the face ears which give it distinctive mane. These interesting animals are critically endangered, as are many of the forests in which they live are disappearing due to ever-expanding logging, agriculture, and industry.  Unfortunately, the golden lion tamarin is in danger of vanishing with them.

Conclusion

In the past 50 years much of the rainforest in Africa and Asia has been destroyed. Large areas of rainforest are being cut down, often in order to remove just a few logs, and rainforest is being destroyed at double the rate of all previous estimates. Unfortunately this means that there is a very high rate of extinction, as the wildlife depending on the forest dies with it.
